ZISC is offering professionally run, friendly and fun RYA-certified sailing courses. Whether you're a complete beginner or ready to take the helm, these courses are for you.

Training in the Solent has everything you need, tidal waters, fun and intricate pilotage and navigation, tidal bars, overfalls to understand and negotiate. It is where a lot of the Swiss and German schools also do their sail training.

I am an RYA Instructor, commerically qualified, professionally insured. I have sailed in this area for 20 years and know it intimately, and it is simply the best place to learn to sail.

The 5-day practical RYA Day Skipper course will take you through basic skippering techniques. You will learn the essentials of navigation, pilotage, anchoring, mooring on both pontoons and buoys, MOB recovery and some night sailing and navigation. There is a minimum syllabus but we can tailor it for your skill and knowledge level.

At the end of the week you are qualified to skipper and charter your own boat all over the world.

5-day course, Mon to Fri, onboard Sunday evening, finishes 16:00 Friday
Start and finish in Port Hamble Marina, Hamble, UK (see location map below)
Stay onboard the boat each evening
Small groups, either four or five students
RYA Certified boat, 3 cabin Bavaria 37, you may need to share or sleep in saloon (or pay for single cabin). The forecabin is large, perfect for sharing!
Continuous assessment during the week. There is no formal exam, but you are assessed, the pass rate is high but not guaranteed!

Pre-requisite: 100 nautical miles at sea and 5 days onboard. And very importantly, either completed the Day Skipper Shorebased Navigation course OR have knowledge to that level. That means studying theory before the practical sailing course!

RYA Competent Crew – Perfect for beginners or those looking to gain hands-on experience.

If you dont have the miles or theory knowledge it is also possible to do the Competent Crew course. Learn the essentials of sailing, safety, seamanship, and life aboard. Get stuck in and discover the thrill of crewing under sail.
